cases and one of 290 con troIs in a hospital-based study between 1970 and 1980 in North Carolina and Virginia. Roush et aL. (1980) examined exposure to nickel, cutting oils and wood dust in a case-control study based on all sinonasal cancer deaths in Connecticut in 1935-75. Job titles were obtained from deaths certificates and city directories and were c1assified according to estimated airborne exposures. Ten of 216 cases and 49 of 662 coIitrols were classified as having been exposed to nickel (RR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.4-1.5). Gérin et aL. (1984) reported significantly more frequent exposure to nickel among 246 Canadian lung cancer patients (29 exposed; odds ratio, 3.1; 95% CI,

Nickel and Nickel Compounds
Synonyms, trade names, and molecular formulae for nickel, nickel alloys, and selected nickel compounds are presented in Table 1.1. This list is not exhaustive, nor does it necessarily reflect the commercial importance of the various nickel-containing substances, but it is indicative of the range of nickel alloys and compounds available, including some compounds that are important commercially, ...

متن کاملGeneChip analysis of signaling pathways effected by nickel.
The carcinogenicity of nickel compounds has been shown in numerous epidemiological and animal studies. Carcinogenesis is generally considered as a multistep accumulation of genetic alterations. Nickel, however, being highly carcinogenic is only a weak mutagen. We hypothesize that nickel may act by modulating signaling pathways, and subsequently by reprogramming transcription factors. Insoluble ...
متن کاملToxicity, uptake, and mutagenicity of particulate and soluble nickel compounds.
Toxicity testing in AS52 cells (24-hr exposures) gave LC50 values of 2 to 130 micrograms Ni/ml for particulate nickel compounds and 45 to 60 micrograms Ni/ml for water-soluble salts (NiCl2, NiSO4, Ni(CH3COO)2). The Ni(OH)2, NiCO3, and sulfides (Ni3S2, Ni7S6, "amorphous NiS") exhibited similar toxicities (LC50's of 2 to 8 micrograms Ni/ml), while three nickel oxides were more variable and less t...
متن کاملINVESTIGATING THE fFORMATION OF INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS AND THE VARIATION OF BOND STRENGTH BETWEEN Al-Cu LAYERS AFTER ANNEALING IN PRESENCE OF NICKEL BETWEEN LAYERS
In the present study, the effect of post-rolling annealing heat treatment on the formation of intermetallic compounds between Al-Cu strips, in the presence of nickel coating on the Cu strips, was investigated. In addition, the effect of post-rolling annealing and intermetallic compounds on the bond strength of Al-Cu strips was evaluated. In order to prepare samples, Cu strips were coated with n...
متن کاملRespiratory carcinogenicity assessment of soluble nickel compounds.
The many chemical forms of nickel differ in physicochemical properties and biological effects. Health assessments for each main category of nickel species are needed. The carcinogenicity assessment of water-soluble nickel compounds has proven particularly difficult. Epidemiologic evidence indicates an association between inhalation exposures to nickel refinery dust containing soluble nickel com...
